MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS—The Best Path to a Better Life
By Karen Vernon—celebrating her one year anniversary by sharing her gift with all of us
I am a 53 year old Australian woman who was diagnosed with Secondary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis 16 years ago. I also have arthritis in both knees. In September 2014, my whole life changed when I got the “perfect treatment” in Bangkok, Thailand.
I had done my research and decided on stem cell treatments, particularly at Better Being Hospital (BBH) in Bangkok (More on that later).
When I say, “the perfect treatment” I am not only referring to my medical remedies, but also to how I was treated as a patient. It began with Don Margolis and the Repair Stem Cells Institute. Of the three other representatives I spoke with who could arrange treatment at BBH, only Don took the time to really learn my specifics instead of pushing a “standard treatment” at me. He was the only one to suggest treating both the MS and the arthritis with 8 instead of 6 packages of stem cells (smartly adding PRP and hyaline injections). While the others seemed content to “sell” the standard, Don and his team carefully studied my case to custom tailor the plan to my needs.
I also cannot praise enough Better Being Hospital and its director, Dr. Torsak, a remarkable doctor with sincere motivation behind treating patients and running the hospital. The doctors are up on all state-of-the-art methods and theories, highly trained, and very empathetic, as are the support staff. I could not have asked for a better medical team – it was very hard to leave since they felt like family. I still keep in touch with a number of team.
At BBH, in addition to the stem cell treatment, there is physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, occupational therapy, acupuncture, and extensive dietary advice. I learned that diet plays a major role in the neurological conditions I have, and I have (mostly) followed through with the Ketogenic Diet recommended by Dr. Torsak and explained to me by the nutritionists who have even helped me with recipes.
Be patient with your patient
Before treatment, I didn’t feel so much that my MS was affecting me cognitively, but there were times I had trouble concentrating and completing certain mental tasks. Today, I feel more alert and actively seek out brain training exercises.
But, all of this comes over time. When you are a patient of stem cell therapy, there is a great feeling of expectation from yourself, loved ones, and friends for immediate results. While some results may be amazingly quick (as I saw in some others at BBH), don’t pressure yourself or set yourself and others up for disappointment. The treatment is not instant and you may have to allow for 6 to 9 months for some signs of improvement. But, trust me, they will come.
And, be ready to follow through… I regularly attend a gym, I use the therapeutic putty used by the OT, and I have continued the recommended diet, even finding and devising new recipes.
Remember, too, the earlier you start your treatment, the better your chances of success. And, be patient, but don’t waste your time. One of the best ways to increase those chances is to go directly to RSCI and get the best recommendations for treatment specific to you.
